Early Dismissal

29 Jul

Today was an early start to my weekend. Only had to work a 1/2day today (this has happened 1x every month during the summer, but I was already off for vacation on the last one) so I was very excited today for this one! Wore this to do dinner with my aunt and uncle for their anniversary. After going to my sewing class.( I’ve taken a couple of classes to familiarize myself with sewing so that I can start doing my own alterations of my thrifted finds and just basic hemming/mending, instead of paying good money that could be uses towards something else, to the cleaners). I actually just received my new machine that I ordered the other  day and hemmed a vintage top (which used to be a dress). Still need some more practice, but it will do (trying to make a straight line/seam is not easy! for me anyway). So in future posts, you will see some of my alterated pieces. Ok, I digress! Anyway, this dress is a pale yellow with nubby fabric and stripey type print (pictures do not show the details). Love the pockets, of course, always my favorite on dresses and skirts! It’s very lightweight (almost kind of see-thru), easy, fun summer look!

School Spirit

29 Jul

The colors of this outfit are homage to my to my high school. I think the blue and yellow really pop together! Relaxed and casual but still put together. The tank makes it kind of sporty, but the shoes dress it up just enough!  Added the glasses for a touch of the geek/chic look. What were your high school colors?

Sunday Lunch

25 Jul

Well, it is definitely cooler today (or should I say not as hot/humid)! At least it’s bearable! Wore this out to lunch with my husband and youngest son. I bought this dress last year after being inspired by a similiar one Stella McCartney did. I wasn’t too inspired to wear any color today, so here is my all neutral outfit (oh, the wooden bracelets do have some color). I think it works. Hope you had a good weekend and stayed cool!

Twin Towers

I wore this outfit to go shopping for paint and stuff to do some redecorating in my house. These cutoffs are my go to shorts for any and everything! I’ve had them for many many many years and will never get rid of them. To me, cutoff denim is always in style, not just a trend. My favorite thing about them is the way they slouch. Sooo comfy!

P.S.: Forgive the shiny face; it is very hot and humid out! (can you say a heat index of 115degrees! Muy Caliente!!!)

25 Jul

OK! Enough is enough! I love the hot weather, but when you can’t  breath outside, that’s where I draw the line! Since we on the East Coast (and some other parts of the country) are in  what seems like, a never ending HEATWAVE, I am forced to take pictures indoors. This dress was very comfortable for the weather outside, but I had to wrap up with a pashmina while in various establishments cause they definitely have the air on BLAST! The gray of the dress is kinda blah so I decided to put on the bright blue belt and added the blue/white clutch. I still felt like something was missing, that’s when the orange beaded necklace jumped out at me. Threw on the orange wedges to make sure the necklace didn’t appear to be an afterthought. What do you think? Good color combo?

Bathing Suit or Playsuit?

19 Jul

I found this while thrifting while on vacation back in May. Not quite sure if it is supposed to be a vintage bathing suit or a vintage playsuit? It has a yellow panty attached underneath that is not lined quite like a swimsuit, but the material of the entire thing feels like it could get wet and then dry easily.  I didn’t attempt to give it a try getting wet, didn’t want to ruin it. So I just decided to lay out in it and read from my Kindle. I think it’s very cute though, what do you think? Cute? Vintage Bathing Suit? Vintage Playsuit?

Linen in the Summertime

19 Jul

There’s nothing like wearing linen in the summertime! Definitely is a summer must-have. Cool, comfy and always chic. The only downfall is those darn wrinkles! I can never seem to do a good ironing job. But, oh well, I tried. I got  the length altered a little, but I like wearing my slacks long so that I can wear heels with them. I thought my geometric, wooden platforms looked good with these pants. What do you think?
