In-Vested

27 Feb

Sunday: Beautiful, sunny day! A little windy and chilly but overall nice! Got much warmer later this afternoon, after church. Just trying to get in the last wears of the winter duds, especially the fur and the boots, before Spring arrives. Well, even though with our Spring on the East Coast, it’s still kind of chilly so I will get more wear out of my collection of boots/booties before it gets too warm. I love a tie neck/bow blouse. It’s that classic, 70s secretary piece that I like to incorporate into other looks. I like the juxtaposition of the almost prudish tie neck blouse with the worker/carpenter jeans. I like that it’s not a “usual” combination but works anyway. The booties are a hunter green color that is the same as in the blouse. The combination of the deep green with the brown heeled area on the boot are perfection (see close-up of booties for detail)! My bag doesn’t exactly “match” with anything that I’m wearing, but I like that and the color really pops because everything else is so dark. The vest is really old, a gift from my girls. I like the details of the vest with the leather accents and the silver fasteners. O, and the coat is vintage Aigner, so classic, with their signature maroon color trimmed throughout and on the buttons. I hope to get alot out of it. So that’s what I wore today! What did you wear today? Have a blessed week!

Tropical Mix

25 Feb

Friday: Quick post today. I wore this to go hang out with my sister today. A chilly, rainy, dreary day so I decided to brighten things up and keep the optimism of spring alive with the flower and the gingham. I love the bright colored floral scene against the black background on the pants. The black really makes the other colors pop! I wore the pink/white shirt because I liked how the pink in the shirt plays off the pink flowers in the pants. I thought the gingham/floral mix gives the outfit more interest and makes the pants look more like a “cool”/current piece rather than something intended to be worn by a retiree living in Palm Beach Florida. I love the look of mixing patterns! The key is to make sure that both have the same colors so that it looks intentional. I know, it’s a little scary at first but if you wear it with confidence, it works! You don’t have to go as bold and in your face as I did.  If you’re brave enough, give it a try! I like to take fashion risks. I just like to have fun with clothes. Not take it too seriously! Yeah, I did notice some stares today. The head to toe looking up and down action. But guess what, I didn’t care. If they do or don’t like how I dress, I don’t care! That’s how it’s supposed to be. If you love what you wear and you feel confident in it, who cares what others think! O, didn’t I say this was going to be a quick post? Sorry, I can be a chatterbox sometimes! Well, I’m outta here! Talk to you soon! Thanks for checking in today!

It’s Always Black and White

20 Feb

Sunday: First I need to explain the fact that I have committed a fashion felony. I am wearing a black undergarment under a white shirt when I should be wearing a nude one. This is one rule that I usually always follow and you should to. Whenever you are wearing a light colored top or bottom, you should always wear nude undergarments (never black, white, colored or printed). As you can see, they do show through. Well, I can justify this today. Initially, I was going to wear a black dress over this white turtleneck. I put the turtleneck on prior to doing my hair and makeup as to not disturb things after they were done. When I put on the dress that I planned to wear, I realized that it was just too short for church. So as a last resort, I grabbed this skirt to wear but was unable to change my shirt because my hair/makeup was already done and I was not going to redo it all. So this fashion faux pa is what is the end result. FYI- I did leave my jacket on throughout the entire church service. I wasn’t going to show up with my black bra showing after I made it a point not to wear a too short dress! I added the neon bag (a trend for Spring) for a pop of color. In case your wondering about the hairdo today, it was inspired by some past runway shows where their inspiration came from Bride of Frankenstein or the beehive trend. I told you before, I’m from Jersey, we like big hair (sometimes)! Hope you had a great weekend!

PINKS, ALL OUT

19 Feb

Saturday: So initially I didn’t plan to wear so much pink. The polish is a recent purchase that I wanted to give a try so that was already planned. Then came the sweater. I picked this up when my mom asked me to go to my local Old Navy to see if they had a certain pair of booties in her size that they didn’t have at her local store. So I blame her for me going in there and picking up what she wanted and a few things for myself. To make matters worse, they had just done markdowns and had some awesome deals! So this sweater was one of those deals, in addition to another one with different colors (you know me and multiples). I love the color combination! I had the boots for several years and they came to mind when I was thinking of what footwear would compliment the look. When looking for what lipstick to wear, I came across this shade of pink, my old school Wet n Wild #521. My old ” go to” favorite from 5th grade thru high school (and no, my mom didn’t know I was wearing lipstick in the 5th grade; you know you put on makeup once you got to school, or changed to clothes that you knew weren’t allowed to wear!). I only did the makeup thing, was never one to want to dress “sexy” or inappropriate, not my thing! Not even now, as an adult, sexy is never a look that I intentionally go for. I dress for style and fashion and if it happens to look “sexy”, that’s just a coincidence and not on purpose. Not to say there’s anything wrong with a women wanting to look sexy. To each her own. If that’s what gives you confidence and makes you feel good, go for it! So how what you describe your style and what you wear? What’s your “go to” look?Preview

Primaries

Friday: Spent the day with Javar and my Goddaughters since the were out of school today for a long Presidents’ Weekend. We had lunch @ one of my favorite spots, Friendly’s! When I have a craving for greasy, fattening food, I like to indulge in the “Munchie Mania”. Nothing beats mozzarella sticks and loaded fries, with all that cheese, bacon and sour cream with ranch dipping sauce on the side! The chocolate “lava cake” wasn’t mine though, that was Javar’s (too much chocolate for me!). I was full but was told that I couldn’t be at Friendly’s and not get ice cream, so I caved and just settled for a small scoop of my favorite strawberry with whipped cream. As far as the outfit goes, I found this sweater while looking for pieces for Javar for a video shoot that he is going to do (tell you more about that later). I loved that is color blocked in an old school way. I like the use of bright primary colors against the black background. I paired it with these slouchy jeans to make it more relaxed and modern. The heels just give the look a more feminine, put together feel. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Navy and Pink

13 Feb

Sunday: This is what I wore today. I layered a button down with this sweater to be warm on this frigid day. After the mixed bag of weather yesterday, it was nice to get a dry, sunny day. I’m going to be positive about the weather today and not complain about how cold and windy it actually was despite the sunshine! I tried getting these pics while the sun was out, but that didn’t go over to well as you can tell. My photographer wasn’t with me today so I had to use the tripod. I just don’t like using that thing because the pictures don’t feel natural to me, they feel rushed. Anyway, I chose this “secluded” location as to not get any weird stares from people. If you’ve ever taken photos out in public, you can relate to how people gawk at you. Other bloggers talk about this alot (the ones who use tripods). Even when you have someone else taking your pics, people still stare. I guess they are just curious as to what you are doing (or just nosey). I encountered one of the nosey ones today. As I said I was back in the cut taking these pics, when I looked up, this man just so happen to be walking his dog back there. Now I know he probably never walks his dog back this far, he just saw me and wanted to be nosey. Needless to say, I just ignored him and kept doing what I was doing! Well, that’s all for now. Watching the Grammy Awards Red Carpet!(gotta get my fashion fix!). Can’t wait to see the performances, especially J.Hud and her Whitney Houston tribute! Getting my tissues ready right now. Hope you had a great weekend!

Furry

12 Feb

Saturday: Enough is enough! This is our second day of snow this week! Ok, so we haven’t had too much of a winter, so why should I complain. I don’t care, I’m still gonna complain! Some people seem to think that because our winter hasn’t been so bad that Spring/Summer are going to be “normal”. Well, according to my weatherman (the best there is I might add!), Spring is going to be cold! Of course, I know that man is not the predictor of anything, only God has that authority. But if I had to listen to any meteorologist it would be my Channel 10 team. And no, they do not pay me for endorsing them, lol (they should though!). Anyway, this is what I wore today. These boots are a pair that I “found” under my bed a week ago. I call them my santa claus boots. I believe I only wore them one time 4-5 yrs ago when I purchased them. They are super comfy and very warm, which was perfect for today’s outing. They were just shedding like crazy! I don’t remember that from before when I wore them, but I could’ve just forgotten. Side Note: Just got the news that Whitney Houston has died! Unbelievable (but not too hard to believe considering the lifestyle)! But still not to be taken too lightly. Condolescences to her daughter and rest of family. She was truly a legend with the voice that was phenomenal! A God-given gift for sure! R.I.P. Whitney, you and that voice will be missed!

Winter Clearance Sales

9 Feb

I told you this before, but I like to shop all year round for all seasons of clothing. My favorite times to find the best deals is to shop “off season”. To shop “off season” means that if we are in the Spring/Summer months, you buy whatever Fall/Winter clothing is available and if we are in the Fall/Winter months, you buy Spring/Summer clothing. Of course, you’re not going to be able to do this the entire season that you are experiencing because the items won’t be available. Ok, so technically it isn’t really “off-season” (more like end of the season), but most people are looking to shop for the next season because retailers are already stocking those items and people are just excited to buy pieces for the upcoming season. But what you do is, at the end of the season that you are in, the retailers/designers put all the remaining pieces from that season on clearance in order to make room for the next season’s pieces. This is the best time to snatch up those pieces that you may have been coveting but just couldn’t or wouldn’t spend the money for. Well, now they may still be in stock, but at a big, deep discounted price. These sales usually start after Christmas, but get even better throughout the month of January and well into February!

Some of the best prices on clothing, everything from winter coats, hats/scarves/gloves. As far as footwear is concerned, you can find some great boots that have been steeply discounted. While shopping for these discounts, you can expect to see price cuts of at least 50-70% off (sometimes more than that!). That’s what I’m talking about! It always makes me feel better when I know I got something for the lowest possible price. This is a great way to build your wardrobe without breaking the bank. So even if you don’t get a chance to wear the pieces that much before Winter is over, you will be able to pull them out again next year! Also, if you’re lucky enough to be planning for a sunny/warm vacation soon (while the rest of us are left here to freeze, yeah I’m jealous), or to just get a jump on Summer, alot of retailers have already put out the swimwear/beachwear and are discounted it 20-25% on average.

Even for those of you who aren’t big on shopping in brick-n-mortar stores, most of them have online stores with great sales also. Some are even offering an additional % off in conjunction with the current markdowns! See, it definitely will be worth your while to do a little shopping.

So what are you waiting, get out there (or online) and start doing some shopping before your size is all gone!!!!!!

Winter Blooms

6 Feb

Sunday: Just thinking ahead to Spring with this outfit.  I purchased this skirt a while ago (don’t remember when but it’s been sitting in my closet untouched until now). I was attracted to the allover flower print and the vibrant colors. I love the flouncy, girliness of the siloutte. The pockets just sealed the deal even more! The floral skirt is something that can be easily be taken from Spring to Winter. It is silk with a polyester underlay. I wore it with the tights, a turtleneck and boots to transition it to Winter. I kept the look mostly classic by adding the pearl necklace and earrings. The updo with the beaded headband also gives the look an overall classic feel. The boots mixes things up so it’s not too prim and proper looking (didn’t realize when I purchased them that Valentino Garavini has an almost identical pair but the heel is a little different; sorry can’t remember where I saw them).  And of course when you throw on a leather jacket it instantly adds a little edge to any outfit. So when it comes to getting the most wear out of your wardrobe, you can add and subtract pieces to have your clothes go from Spring/Summer to Fall/Winter as I did in my look today. If I wanted to wear this skirt in the warmer months, it will also look good with a tee/tank and a pair of flat sandals or a cute wedge. You could also dress it up a little bit with a crisp white button down and a pair of classic pumps or strappy sandals. A skirt like this has endless styling possibilities, you just have to try out different pieces until you find something that works for you and the occasion/situation. Now back to the Super Bowl (well, not really watching, just catching commercials and waiting for Madonna’s half-time performance-I’m enjoying the Sex and the City marathon instead)! Enjoy what’s left of your weekend! Thanks for reading and all your comments!

Finders Keepers

5 Feb

Saturday: When I thought about what to wear for today I decided on something comfy since it was going to be a long day for me. So you probably are thinking, “she calls comfy wearing a high heel like that!” To that, I answer “yes”. I call this a comfy outfit because the shirt is very loose and easy to move around in. The pants, which are a cotton legging are super comfy. They make me feel like I’m wearing my pjs! And the boots are comfy (believe it or not). They are Jessica Simpson, which I looove her footwear! All the shoes/boots I own from her are all comfy, no matter how high the heel. She definitely has a good shoe line going on. They are not expensive, but not cheaply made like some others in her price point. The leather she uses is super soft and of high quality. They always run true to size in all her styles. She even exceeds some other brands who set their prices higher than hers. So I actually had forgotten that I had these. When I went to look for the OTK boots that I originally had in mind to wear today, I came across these and opted to wear them today. While looking for said boots, I came across three other pairs of boots that I forgot that I owned (don’t even remember the last time I wore them, but will maybe get to wear them before the season is over). So comfy for me (when leaving the house that is), is to wear something that feels good on you, nonrestrictive and appropriate for whatever you’re going to be doing. It doesn’t mean you have to compromise style by wearing something like sweats and beat up sneaks. Even a pair of jeans can make you look put together by adding the right footwear and accessories.  You can be comfy and still be put together! Enjoy your weekend!

P.S.-Just became aware of someone @ church who is a natural hair specialist and has her own all natural hair/skin care products! Will let you know more after I consult with her/begin sampling her products.
