Deep Plum and High Tops

28 Dec

Friday: Yes, I am wearing sneakers today! A no-heel type of day due to plans to hand out with my sis and the nephews. Didn’t know exactly what we were gonna do so I decided to just go with the sneaks. The sweatshirt is the high/low sweatshirt done by Proenza Schouler for the Target/Neiman Marcus collabo. If you don’t know, Neiman Marcus and Target collaborated on some limited edition designer pieces that are being sold at Target. They range from everything from clothing to housewears to bicycles, etc. As far as the clothing goes, this is the only piece that caught my eye. The artwork on the sweatshirt isn’t anything to marvelous but since I have a slight obsession for sweatshirts right now, I had to have it. But not at its regular price, it was actually 50% off at this time so it became more attractive to me. The deep plum pants were a good compliment to the colors in the shirt. Plus since the sw is more oversized, the skinny jean balances it out. And of course I had to pull out my fitted which I can usually no longer wear with my thick natural hair but also just goes with the laid back vibe of outfit. Anyways, had a great day. We went bowling and I won both games! Which didn’t make my nephew AJ too happy. He’s very competition and is one of those types of males who don’t like losing, especially getting beat by a girl! Have a great weekend and be safe (we’re supposed to get 2-4 in of snow here in the Northeast)! God Bless!

Plaid on Christmas

25 Dec

Tuesday (Christmas Day): I decided to pull out this skirt that I purchased about a year and half ago but just never wore. Actually I noticed it shoved in the back of the closet as I was looking for another skirt to wear today. I wanted the orange to pop and be the main piece so I just kept everything else brown. This outfit was the perfect opportunity for me to pull out a hat to wear while I have straight hair. This is the 1st time wearing this hat since I got it from an estate sale last winter. It’s pretty small so I definitely can only wear it with straight hair not my natural curly do. The boots are one of my many purchases from the last couple of years. I think I’ve only worn these one other time here. They’re actually pretty comfy and I think the only reason why I haven’t worn them more is because I just don’t wear too much that goes with brown. Maybe I’ll try to wear them more often. I told you, that price per wear thing just doesn’t work for me. I justify my purchases that cost a little more by keeping things forever. That’s why it isn’t worth it to spend alot of money on trendy pieces that date themselves. Even though sometimes, most times, trends repeat themselves (sometimes it takes a decade or more, but it does happen). Anyways, had a great Christmas with my family as we always do when we get together. Even got my sons to take a picture with me even though they hate taking pictures (well, mostly the middle one who always covers his face in all pics), but I’m not going to post it on here cause then they will never take another, lol. So, I hope you enjoyed your Christmas! God Bless!

A Reindeer and a Leopard

23 Dec

Sunday: So you know how I’m loving a graphic tee or sweatshirt nowadays and this one was no exception. There is a running theme this time of year about the “ugly Christmas sweater’. Well, this Christmas themed sweatshirt does not fit into that category (well to me anyway). I think it’s rather cool! How could you resist this reindeer looking dope in his sunnies. I couldn’t so that’s why I bought him home with me. I do understand that it could’ve gone wrong so I knew I had to style him up. Not the traditional Christmas red, I chose to wear this brick red coated jeans. I wanted to keep the proportions in check so since the sweatshirt is oversized and slim skinnies balance it out. And just to end a little touch of chic, I thought the leopard booties was a good touch. So what do you think? Do you or would you wear a holiday sweater? Well, one more shopping day left. Hope you enjoy your families and remember Jesus is the reason for the season. Without him, there would be no “CHRIST”-mas. So while your enjoying your festivities, honor the one who this day represents. God Bless!

Leather, Star and Neon

22 Dec

Saturday: Decided to run out to do some last minute Christmas shopping. I was actually done until Javar decided he wanted on PlayStation game over another (the one I had already bought, of course). So I ventured to the mall to exchange it. I already knew the mall was gonna be crazy, since it is the last couple of days to shop. But my strategy was to go early, like as soon as they opened. Once the afternoon came, I know it would be off the hook. I don’t mind the crowds or the lines, I just hate the searching for a parking spot and how the traffic is going into the mall. It’s ridiculous! So, since I discovered the mall opened at 8 a.m., and I would be awake early anyway (sidebar: I hate that I wake up early on the weekends like I’m going to work), I decided to go grab some coffee and head over there. Just like I thought, I to the mall without any traffic delays, grabbed a close parking spot without any trouble and got in and out with what I went for, and of course just a couple of extra things. Oh yeah the outfit! The sweater is nice and soft and cozy. Not as thick as I thought it was when I 1st purchased it several months ago but still good. The “leather” pants are actually very comfy. They’re actually cotton leggings with faux leather panels. They are easy to wear just like any other legging. Lots of stretch. Also threw on these sneakers that I bought a few months back but haven’t worn them since. You already know I’m not a sneaker girl but thought I should get some wear out of them. Plus I like how they make the look more casual and fun. So loving that I am able to wear my hats again since I straightened my hair. That’s my only con with having natural curly hair styles. Just too much hair to fit under my hats. So be prepared to see me in hats until I go back to curly again. Did any of you have to go out a finish your Christmas shopping this weekend? Well, until next time, God Bless!

Fast Cars

22 Dec

Friday: I wore this to our Christmas outing for work. The shirtdress reminded of the print that Prada did with the car theme. I thought it was different. I like that the cars are somewhat cartoonish but is also made grown up and sophisticated because of the tie neck. The entire dress has contrasting elements that somehow work. The cars, the tie neck, a shirtdress and a mini length. Hair: I decided that I wanted to do a blow out for the holidays. So after several hours of washing, blowing and flatironing the night before, the wind had something else in mind (as you can see). But that’s ok but it just shows how light and full of body my blow out turned out! So soft and flowy, even better than when I used to relax it. It’s amazing what some products and a little time can do with all the harsh chemicals of a relaxer. I get to enjoy the best of both worlds, straight when I want, then a wash and I am right back to curls. Anyway, we went to dinner then to see “Jonah” at The Sight and Sound Theater. Ah-mazing! We also got to see one of our patients, little Sophia,  who starred in the show. We were so proud of her! She did a great job! Have a great weekend and thanks for reading. God Bless!

Sunday: Another day that allowed me to wear bare legs. Yeah, I have been definitely taking advantage of it! The sweater is one of three animal sweaters that I bought on a recent trip to Old Navy. I initially went to find the fox sweater that I saw on the commercial starring the actors from one of my favorite series of movies, “National Lampoon’s Vacation”. Well, this commercial is from Michelle’s favorite, “Christmas Vacation”. When I came across the fox sweater, to my surprise, they also had this owl one and one with 3 lambs. I don’t know why I am so obsessed with animal sweaters but I just had to buy all 3. I know they may seem a little juvenile, but I think it depends on how you style them. So I chose to style mine with a grown and sexy (not to me but to some), pencil skirt. I prefer to style a pencil skirt in a less sexy manner but to each her own. Thru on these old boots that I’ve worn all of 1x to complete the look. What do you think? Do you have piece you obsess over or buy often? God Bless!

Saturday: Happy Monday! Decided to pull out this “onesie” that I thrifted almost 2 yrs ago. According to the fashion trend, the “onesie” is the up and coming piece. I always loved a “no-brainer”, one piece that takes no thought and is easy dressing. For instance, a dress. There is no long thought process when wearing a dress. No need to have to decide how to style it with other pieces. Just throw it on, accessorize and go. Well, the same goes for the onesie. Or jumpsuit, if you wanna call it that. To me, it’s definitely a onesie. I remember dressing my kids in such one piece outfits. They were always so easy and cute! From denim ones to cotton to fleece. The only issue was having to completely (or so it feels like) undressing to use the bathroom. Ok, TMI, I know, but it’s true. Anyways, I own a few of these such one-piecers. I like it when something that I purchased just because I like it, becomes a “new” trend, again! It saves me from having to go out and buy it or having to buy one that is like the one everyone else is wearing. I thought it was a good, easy outfit for some Saturday errands. Javar thought I looked like “that lady from Three’s Company” (Mrs. Roper, I assume), but I’m ok with that because I love her sense of style! I actually love a good caftan! Well, hope you had a good weekend! God Bless!
