Thursday Night: I wore this little number to the “Lions and Legends Awards” hosted by The Metropolitan Urban League in Wilmington. I attended this event to show support for my boss who was an award recipient. This dress is one of my vintage finds that have been hanging with others for the past 2 years . I actually had forgotten about it but as this event approached and I pondered what to wear, I spotted this dress, still in the dry cleaners plastic (along with another vintage cocktail-type dress that I had forgotten about), hanging there just waiting to be worn. I love it! So “Mad Men”. It looks like it is from the late 1950s but I’m not an expert on vintage so that’s just a guess. I love that the front is plain but the high collar drops down in the back and opens the back to lead down to a cute bow detail. It kinda looks like the dress is worn backwards (which I would totally do) except there are darts in the front chest area. I initially planned to wear a black strappy sandal/heel but I thought I needed to add some color and these bright neon shoes did the trick! Also, I like that they are vintage-inspired with the block heel and just the overall style of them.¬† I love a good piece of vintage, especially dresses! Some people don’t like the fact that the piece was worn by someone else and sometimes there is that “old” smell. As far as the smell, I have a solution for that. But as far as someone else wore it, I don’t mind that. It just makes it more interesting to imagine or wonder what the story is behind that piece. Who did it belong to and when, where and why did they wear that piece. The bonus is that no one else will be wearing what you are wearing! Well, that’s all for now. Heading out to another event this evening so I’ll have another post for you later. Enjoy this heat wave! I am, I love it! Finally, Summer/Spring weather! God Bless!

Sunday: I think this black and white thing is becoming somewhat of a habit for me. We all know that black and white is so classic and basic and now according to “them”, it is a trend this season. I just have been putting together black and white ensembles without even thinking about it. Anywho, the skirt is a thrift find that I decided to pull out to wear with this tee repping my home state. I love mixing dressy pieces, such as skirts, with more casual pieces, like this tee. And of course, a pair a heels complete the look. I love that this look reminds of the 80s. I don’t know why, but it does. Maybe it’s the white, pointy-toe pumps. Especially since I am sporting these Cazal-esque glasses. I could definitely imagine myself rocking this look in a scene from Beat Street circa 1984. “Us girls, can boogie too! We can dance, we can shake it”, lol . I now y’all 80’s kids know what I’m talking about! Not you who were born in the 80’s, but those of us who grew up in the 80’s. One of my favorite movies of all times. I can watch it over and over. I have quite a few movies like that. What about you? Anyways, I just about had enough of this wind. It is just out of control and makes for some difficult hair moments in my photos. Well, being that I wear my hair in its natural state, the wind just styles it for me and makes it bigger and messier, how I like it. Alright, let me stop blabbing and get back to watching my Sunday night shows and the Free On Demand movies that Verizon is offering this long holiday weekend. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend! God Bless!

Saturday: I wore this outfit to go out with the middle child to look for a new car. These trousers I love because they are somewhat of a sweatpant but alot less sporty/casual. They are not fleece but are a thin cotton. I like the touches of “leather” that make them a bit more edgy. And of course, had to throw on a pair heels to “dress up” such sporty-looking pants. Thanks for stopping by! God Bless!

Last Friday: I know this post is late, but here it goes anyway. I wore this suit to my church’s fashion show. The event called for an all white apparel event (with touches of color if desired). I bought this suit like 4-5 years ago when Michelle and I attended an event in NYC. It was such a great price and a classic suit that I couldn’t leave without it. At the time of purchase I didn’t have any idea when and where I would wear it to but bought it anyway. I knew that it was such a classic that no matter when I had the chance to wear it, it would never be out of style because it is so timeless. So fast forward to May 17, 2013 and I thought this was perfect opportunity to final get some wear out of it. I’m always skeptical about wearing white but since I wasn’t going to be around a bunch of grimey hand rugrats or sauces or red drinks, I felt that I would be safe. Also thought to pair these animal print shoes would be a great touch, even though you can’t really see them. Black and white, always classic and chic! Thanks for reading! Enjoy your long weekend! I will be resting but I will have a couple outfit posts for you. Be safe! God Bless!

Friday: Bought these faux leather shorts back in the Winter. I didn’t get a chance to wear them with tights so I planned to wear them barelegged once the weather cooperated. Well, this was the perfect weather day. Not too hot and not too cold. This is not the type of material that you want to wear once the temperatures/humidity begins to rise too much. So I thought this was the perfect temp to take them out for spin. I wanted to keep the look casual, since “leather” can sometimes come off as dressed up or tough. The denim top is just that essential piece that goes with everything and makes an outfit more laid back. The heels are a fun, tribal print that brings a little color into the story. Thanks for reading! God Bless!

Sunday: I love a suit¬† for a woman! Especially when worn in a chic, not corporate way. This one happens to be more on the fitted side which definitely makes it super feminine. Even though the cut is feminine, I decided that I wanted to add a masculine touch with the bow tie (thanks Javar for letting me borrow it!). Also, these killer spike adorned heels gives the look a edgy, feminine vibe. Looking at these pics now, I kinda got a Janelle Monae thing going on except I’m in heels. I guess it’s the pompadour! Side Note: I loved these shoes when I saw them but now that I have worn them, not so much. Reason being is that all my heel wearing sistas know how the steepness of a high heel can sometimes cause our feet to slide forward. Well this pair definitely does that. To the point that I made a conscious decision not to moisture my feet to much as to minimize said slippage, but it happeded anyway. So bad, that Javar laughed at me because my toes were practically touching the ground as I walked (not cute!). So, maybe next time I will use one of those anti-slip pads and see how that works. Anyways, hope you all had a great weekend and a happy mother’s day. God Bless!

Sunday: Still trying to get some wear out my “Winter” pieces. This skirt is something I thrifted about a year or so ago. I love a full skirted midi. It’s just so classic and gives me a vintage vibe that I like. I wore it with this knit that I’ve had for a few years. The skirt has a high waist that I wanted to show but my top options just didn’t give me the look I was going for so I had to cover it up. And of course, my favorite detail of the skirt is the pockets! I decided to keep the look a little more demure by wearing a lower height heel. I love a cap toe shoe. It just makes this simple mary jane heels a little more interesting. And they were super comfortable too (bonus!). Thanks for reading. I hope you had a great weekend! God Bless!
