Knit One, Pearl Two

22 Jan

Hey everyone! I know I’ve been missing in action from the blog due to a case of laziness when it comes to booting up the laptop, uploading pics, editing through to find the keepers and then posting. But if you follow me on Instagram, you know I’m still around posting outfit pics. If you don’t already follow me, you can @1ststatestyle on IG. Anyway, I thought these knit shorts were really cute when I came across them. The problem was #1: it’s Winter time, #2: they’re pretty short and #3: I could save them to wear when it’s warmer outside but the problem with that is that they may just cause some sweating in unwanted areas! So, I decided to just do some quick photos of how I would style them and wear them to just lounge around the house when the temps outside are a bit chilly but the house is cozy and warm. They work well for me while I lounge around maybe reading a book, coloring in my adult coloring book, watching tv, sipping tea or just about anything! Well, I got some more pics to post. God Bless!

I Understand…I Just Don’t Care

17 Dec

This buffalo check number is either a dress, shirtdress or a very long button down. I chose to style it as a jacket/duster or whatever you want to call it. Plaid, especially red and black plaid, can come across as grunge or lumberjack-ish. I went with a bit of both. Pulled out and dusted off this old hiker boots because I like how they looked with the whole ensemble and how the dark brown pops with all the red and black. Hope your weekend is going well and your finishing up your Christmas shopping! God Bless!

Zigging and Zagging

A few photos that I didn’t have a chance to post due to a very hectic and busy schedule. Please forgive the poor quality, I don’t know what happened with the lightening (and the weird lip thing that I didn’t realize I was doing, lol). This strapless jumpsuit was worn to a graduation a few weeks ago. It was a bit difficult to decide on a shoe to wear to compliment the length. It was too long for flats but not quite long enough for the heels that I chose (now I see after looking at these pics). The thing was, the heel height was fine until I pulled the top up to a presentable location that I was comfortable with. Anyway, jumpsuits are always on trend. From casual, daily wear to being more dressed up for an occasion or a night out. It’s all in how you style it! Try a jumpsuit! They look great on everyone if the fit is right! God Bless!

Slightly Exposed

31 May

I wore this little number to a graduation ceremony. I think I purchased it sometime last year but didn’t have an opportunity to wear it. The cutout trend is one that has been around for the past year and this particular cutout placement is in the ideal place without being too exposed or revealing. It is placed higher as to not expose the belly button area. I also like that the dress’s floral pattern keeps things more girly and playful. The material of the dress also gives it a more casual feel and could easily be styled with a flat sandal for an everyday look. I styled it with this mule-esque sandals that I’ve had for about 5-6+ years now. I believe I’ve only worn them maybe all of 1x. What do you think of the cutout trend? Have you or will you partake? God Bless!

Sunday: Still trying to take advantage of every “warm” day that we get by wearing exposed legs. Not too much exposure though. I “found” this vintage plaid skirt, amongst some other pieces, that I had thrifted over a few years ago. I guess I forgot about them in a bag that I was supposed to take to have dry cleaned. I was excited when I came across those things cause I forgot about them and it was like that feeling you get when you thrift something good, all over again! The best piece of them all is a camel colored cape that thrifted. I have been talking about wanting to buy a cape but just hadn’t yet. I’m so glad I didn’t because I already had one! It’ll appear on the blog soon. Anyway back to the outfit. If you’ve been following my blog you already know that I am a heels and socks type of girl. So instead of a slouchy/scrunchy sock that I normally wear, I’m doing the knee sock thing. I know this look is alarming to some. I actually caught two people giving each other “the eye” when I approached. You know the look you give your friend that speaks volumes to each other about someone, without even speaking a word. Yeah, that look! It doesn’t bother me though. I’m comfortable in my own skin and also my own personal style that I really don’t care what others think about what I wear. Not being smart or arrogant, that’s just how I feel. I am a humble person and do appreciate the compliments and when people like what I wear but I like it and that’s what’s important. That’s how everyone should feel about their personal style and fashion sense. If you like and are comfortable, I love it! Confidence is a great asset! Ok, I digress. Javar had a hard time describing my look today. He had something in mind but just couldn’t verbalize it. But I call it quirky-librarian. A classic, plaid midi skirt (probably worn by everyone’s elementary school librarian in the 70s). The knee socks I remember my mom dressing us in. My shoes are a take from the classic loafers but in a platform heeled version. And of course my quirky glasses that I love so much. I think they add a bit of quirkiness to every outfit. Well, that’s all for now. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and got some amazing deals if you did some Black Friday shopping. Don’t forget Cyber Monday and Charity Tuesday (special day dedicated to donating to the charities of your choice for the end of the year push in fund raising). God Bless!
